Global Humanities Project
The arts and humanities, with their rich and complex historic and cultural contexts, are more than ever central to a liberal arts curriculum because of their capacity to enable imagination, innovation, and empathy in a pluralistic and changing world. In the rush to science and technology that has been undeniable across the globe, we must rebalance our idea of what is valuable and important, to ensure that complex global challenges are met with nuanced, caring, and informed creativity.
The Global Humanities Project highlights the importance of the global humanities in higher education, provides a platform for ongoing meaningful dialogue and creates a network of globally-connected universities working to shape global humanities as a central commitment in higher education. Since the spring of 2014, GW has collaborated with two of our international partners, Bogazici University (Istanbul, Turkey) and Al Akhawayn University (Ifrane, Morocco) to produce a series of interconnected events drawing on the humanities in different national and cultural contexts. These collaborations were designed to highlight the value and celebrate the contributions of the humanities to society around the globe.
